General Info

Bear in mind that some of the posts are not related to tracking, but are related to philosophy/spirituality and survival. When immersed in nature, tracking, survival, and philosophy are all inseparable.

NOTE: You will receive many, many messages a day once joining the list. The list works kind of like a broadcast service: you send a message to the list, and everyone who has subscribed to the list receives the message.

Subscribing and Unsubscribing

After subscribing to this list, you will receive each message received by the tracker list server as an individual message. The list server gets anywhere from 10 to 30 messages a day. Some people do not like tracker e-mail filling their inbox, so before you subscribe, brace yourself for a whole lot of mail. You might consider the digest version of the list if you only want 1-2 messages per day, however, messages are somewhat delayed when subscribed to the digest version. Be aware that this is a completely different list from the digest list! If subscribed to the digest list and you subscribe to the regular list, you will receive BOTH digests and inidividual messages. You generally would want to unsubscribe from the digest list before subscribing yourself to the regular list.

The list server will respond with a message explaining how to use the list. Save this message, print it out, put it somewhere safe where you won't forget where it is. This is your ticket off of the list!

WARNING: The list server gets anywhere from 10 to 30 messages a day. Some people do not like tracker e-mail filling their inbox, so before you subscribe, brace yourself for a whole lot of mail. ONCE YOU HAVE SUBSCRIBED YOURSELF, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SUBSCRIPTION MAINTENANCE!

IF YOU WISH TO UNSUBSCRIBE, do NOT send your message to trackers@mailinglists.org. Follow the instructions below. Be meticulous! The list server is very picky.

UNSUBSCRIBE

The list server will respond with a message telling you that you have been removed from the list.

Do not send your message to trackers@mailinglists.org... everyone subscribed to the tracker list will receive your request and generally ignore it.

Subscribing and Unsubscribing to the DIGEST version of the list

After subscribing to this list, you will periodically receive a digest of all posts made to the trackers list. This typically results in 1-2 messages per day. This is often useful if you do not enjoy being bombarded with 30 or so messages per day, however, messages are somewhat delayed when subscribed to the digest version. If you want messages immediately, subscribe to the regular version. Be aware that this is a completely different list from the regular list! If subscribed to the regular list and you subscribe to the digest list, you will receive BOTH digests and inidividual messages. You generally would want to unsubscribe from the regular list before subscribing yourself to the digest list.

Posting

To post a message to the entire list, send it to trackers@mailinglists.org and your message will get sent to everyone who has subscribed to BOTH the digest version and the regular version of the list.

NOTE: DO NOT send your message to trackers-d@mailinglists.org. Your message will only go to the digest recipients.

Troubleshooting

List servers are nothing but computer programs. They try their hardest to understand what you are telling it, but sometimes they get confused. Here are a couple of helpful hints.

Helpful Hints

  1. Make sure you sent your message to trackers-request@mailinglists.org instead of trackers@mailinglists.org.
  2. Make sure your subject line is blank.
  3. Make sure that the ONLY text in your body is the command you wish to give to the list server.
  4. Disable any "signature's" that are appended to your messages.

If Unsubscribe Fails

It is possible that your mail program is recording the incorrect e-mail address in the header (hidden) it sends out with each e-mail message or your e-mail address has changed. Try the following:

Send a message to trackers-request@mailinglists.org with "unsubscribe user@domain.com" in the body of the message without the quotes. Replace "user@domain.com" with your e-mail address.

To: trackers-request@mailinglists.org
Subject:

UNSUBSCRIBE user@domain.com

The list server will respond with a message telling you that you have been removed from the list.
